Well, I tried that, and no change to the problem.  I finally exported the
few mails I had sent since I got home, and then recopied my powermail
files folder from work to home and reimported the sent mails so that my
databases are complete.  This time, the incorrect message count did not
appear, so only folders that truly have unread messages are bolded again.
 But I'm still unable to start powermail in "trouble-shooting" mode with
the alt-command keys - it just crashes a few seconds after the dialogue
box appears.  Hopefully, my powermail at work is still OK so I can
trouble-shoot any problems from that computer if need be - but it is a
bit disturbing that I suddenly can't start powermail this way on my home
computer.
