I'm confused by the above two sentences and their implied linkage.

Firstly, why do you have a hard time buying this?  Why else would a Mac
anti-virus program check for PC viruses?  BTW, at the university where I
work, we DO kick people off if their computer starts spewing off
suspicious virus like activity.  Their ports are unlocked ONLY AFTER we
confirm they are clean.

Secondly, what does the reason I gave as to WHY someone might install an
anti-virus program have to do with HOW it works (background operation)?
