Disk Util can be used to repair permission but needs to be ran from boot volume, not CD. Apple recommends running Check Permission before Repair Permission, but I never figured out why. Wayne? Do you know about this? DiskUtil has usage guide from command line, but man doesn't exist. Hmmm....
