If we could use labels as a filtering criteria, that would also perhaps
solve your problem, Max, and perhaps my own as well. I use SpamSieve and
I want a way to not be notified of spam messages -- ie. not appear in the
Recent Mail Window (RMW) and not make the dock icon bounce. Before I used
SpamSieve I used the trick of moving messages that I didn't wish to be
notified of (mailing lists, mainly) into the trash and then out again to
the correct folder (or back into the In Tray). This works when applied by
explicit filter steps (actually, it only removes the message from the
RMW, it doesn't prevent notification, but that was good enough for me)
but doesn't work, apparently, when you set an Applescript to perform the
move(s). I know because I tried adding a bit to the Spamsieve "move spam"
script that would move the message to the trash before moving it to the
Spam folder. For some reason it didn't produce the same effect -- the
message was still in the RMW.

Now, Spamsieve applies a label to my spammy messages, so if I could
filter by label then presumably I could put a filter immediately after
Spamsieve doing something like:
IF label = 7(SPAM) THEN Do not notify.

and that would do it.
Since we can use filters to apply labels, I think that it follows that we
should be able to use labels as filter criteria; I know that messages
always come in without any labels, but a previous filter could apply them
and then the next filter could use them.

Alternatively:
a) someone could write an Apple script that does the same thing (that
could then be run as an ALWAYS filter), or
b) Someone could let me know how to amend my Spamsieve 'Move Spam' script
to include a Do Not Notify command.

Any takers?
Rick
