I started to use PM back in 2001, switched over to Entourage for OSX for
about half a year because I thought the "all-in-one" concept would be a
time saver for me. But when the mail database went close to one GB I went
back to PM again, in February this year.

I've got some 30,000 messages in the database, and receive -- and delete
(thus creating "holes") -- an average of 150 spams a day. I guess I'm
kind of a "sloppy" user, using PM to store all mails, no matter how old
they are, rarely compacting the PM database etc. And I've never lost a
mail, and never had any error messages in this area.

Should any problems come up, we have this excellent discussion forum with
people who always seem willing to help directly, which beats any
comercial support I've seen so far.

I guess one main thing to avoid database trouble is PMs way of storing
attachments outside the database. I know Eudora still does that as well,
but the other main apps put it all together in one huge database.

Take my words for what they are -- an "experience summary" rather than an
unreserved recommendation. Issues where users do experience database
problems turns up every now and then in this forum, but for me personally
PM has been a very problem free mail app.
