I am quoting the whole email because that is the only way to see the
issue. Notice that the content of the email is repeated and that the
repetition is merged with the signature line.

I use PowerMail, not Mail, and have noticed this with email coming from a
regular correspondent who uses Mail - all the time. (I have another
regular correspondent using Mail whose email never has this problem.) It
is really annoying when the email is long; when it is short like this
one, it isn't so bad as you see what is happening right a way.

As both my correspondent and Thomas could be assumed to be somewhat savy
computer users, I am wondering if it is:

a. an interaction of PowerMail and Mail
b. an interaction of Mail with the outgoing or incoming server
c. something in Mail.

In all cases I am receiving the mail with my mac.com address. My ISP is
Earthlink.
