Even though I am still on PPC, I have upgraded to PM 5.5. Even on my G4 iBook, performance seems a bit snappier. Nothing dramatic, but it feels a bit more responsive.
However.. Attachments seems to be causing problems for some people. I sent an AppleWorks file to an Apple Mail user, and they have been unable to open the file. (I did not use ZIP compression.) Previous versions of the file sent with 5.2 caused no problems. Is PM doing anything different to the formatting used to send attachments? Apple Mail recipients get the message: "This message cannot be displayed because of the way it is formatted. Ask the sender to send it again using a different format or email program." (BTW, PM now changes the file names of attachments to reveal the file extension, if the extension is hidden.) Talking of ZIP.. If you try to send a Text Edit RTF file, PM forces you to use ZIP compression, saying: "Zip compression has been enabled. Folders can only be sent when compressed." It looks like PM is treating the RTFD file as a folder. Can this be disabled somehow? If this is a problem with the Finder's Zip compression, can we have the option to disable Apple's Zip compression and use Stuffit (if available), please. -- Mark Smith 2-5-46 Shinjo, Higashi Osaka, Osaka 578-0963, JAPAN T&F: 06-4309-0585 Mobile: 080-3112-4966
