The Perfesser asked away: >As I gather this is the only means of support for PowerMail, I will >avail myself to this channel and hopefully get some of the help I need >assessing this program. There's also the menu command in the Help menu > Send email to PowerMail Support which gives you a support ticket. That may or may not give you a response as it is know. Nevertheless I think that's a good starting point.
>Exactly what purpose do the default "In Tray" and "Out Tray" serve? They are for incoming POP email messages. PowerMail is mainly a POP email client with a focus on basic text messages (HTML-messages can be read but not created). IMAP is more of a second thought. I wouldn't choose PowerMail if my main use of email was IMAP only. Don't you have POP too with your accounts? IMAP only is quite unusual I think. That said I do think your expectations that IMAP should be more of a full citizen protocol of PowerMail, and not have IMAP messages treated any differently than POP messages, is quite reasonable. > Speaking of "In Tray," is it possible to rearrange the folders in the >mailbox window so that I can put my e-mail account "InBox" at the top of >that window? That would be preferable if nothing is going to show up in >"In Tray." It's not possible. At least not without some serious hacking and thus not recommended. > Will the filters functions in PowerMail apply themselves to OUTgoing >mail? The ones marked as draft are just that. Messages are stored in the out box also after they have been sent unless you have checked "Save messages in" (in the General tab of Preferences) or if you run a mail filter which does the same operation only overriding the preference setting. > Is there any way to EDIT INCOMING messages? Unfortunately not in any general straightforward way. There are applescripts that can modify the subject for instance and a script could be made that changes the formatting regarding returns and spaces, but doing that in an interactive way via a script would demand some effort on the script author. >which "support" is offered, and/or the longevity of this company. You'll have to ask CTM about this, but they have been around for a long time and recently moved their code base to Xcode, indicating they are not going away any time soon I think. >But I would sure like to be >able to do everything on the Mac that I could do in Windows, and these e- As for support, it varies, to some degree due to what kind of problems you have. This list is quite good for support some of the time, but not all the time or even most of the time. I'm sure we all do our best as fellow users though as well as CTM does with their presence. >mail issues central to raising my comfort level. Well, generally speaking unless you have real speciality software available only on Windows and you're willing to "do things differently" (ie the traditional Mac way) I think that can more or less be expected with some research put in on your part. Regarding email client you have to find out and decide package by package I'm afraid. Have you looked for any online articles regarding Mac email clients?
