Ginna performs a radiation survey while the fuel is on the truck, then again as
bundles are moved from casks to storage.

These are general radiation surveys, that is, the whole bundle.

With all the personnel involved (mechanics, QA, engineering, RP) Ginna picked
up 16 mRem as a site during 2009 for its new fuel receipt campaign.

Subject: Powernet: New Fuel Surveys

Quick question about survey requirements for new fuel. When you conduct
radiation surveys of new fuel as it's unloaded and staged in the plant, how
many locations do you survey each bundle?

1. 1 (center of bundle)
2. 3 (center and toward top and bottom)
3. 5 (~ every 2 feet or so)
4. Other

As the fuel is loaded into new fuel racks, the general area dose rates do
become measurable such that a reduction in survey locations should have a small
but measurable personnel dose benefit.

Thanks, Eric
