If direct survey results indicate > 100 ccpm, this would be counted as PCE. Depending on the survey results it would be classified as a Level 1, 2, or 3. Higher levels of contamination will requiring assessing for skin dose exposure. We would decontaminate the individual to allow clearing our PCMs and/or direct frisk to ensure there is no external contamination on the individual.
Our procedures direct us to perform an analytical WBC. The WBC results would dictate evaluating for internal and/or external contamination. We utilize a forward and backward count to help in determining if the contamination is "in or on" the worker. Positive WBCs greater than a whole body count action level drive documentation through our internal bioassay progam. Unfortunately, we have had both externally and internally contaminated workers during previous outages which challenges the Health Physics organization. Barbara J.
