Palo Verde provides the following response:

At Palo Verde we do not have an ARW program; all workers receive standard
radworker training.

What "RP" activities do Chemistry Technicians perform at your site?

Do Chemistry Technicians provide self coverage for collecting
samples from radioactive systems? No

Do Chemistry Technicians dose rate samples (e.g., RCS)? No

Do Chemistry Technicians transport radioactive material? Yes

If yes, what is the threshold dose rate above
which they have to be escorted by RP? > 5 mrem/hr at 30 cm

Do Chemistry Technicians perform some contamination surveys of
their work areas? No, prior to obtaining Chem Techs inform RP to allow for
post-sample contamination monitoring

What initial radiological training is provided to Chemistry Technicians in
addition to standard Radiation Worker Training (e.g., ARW?)? None

What continuing radiological training is provided to Chemistry Technicians in
addition to standard Radiation Worker training requalification? None

Subject: Powernet: RP Training for Chemistry Technicians

We have our Chemistry Technicians complete ARW at our site so that they can
perform self coverage for many of their activities. They currently have
several new hires and are challenging the time requirements for ARW training.
In order to help us determine how we compare to other plants, please respond to
the following questions:

What "RP" activities do Chemistry Technicians perform at your site?
Specifically:

Do Chemistry Technicians provide self coverage for collecting
samples from radioactive systems?

Do Chemistry Technicians dose rate samples (e.g., RCS)?

Do Chemistry Technicians transport radioactive material?

If yes, what is the threshold dose rate above
which they have to be escorted by RP?

Do Chemistry Technicians perform some contamination surveys of
their work areas?

What initial radiological training is provided to Chemistry Technicians in
addition to standard Radiation Worker Training (e.g., ARW?)?

What continuing radiological training is provided to Chemistry Technicians in
addition to standard Radiation Worker training requalification?
