We have had similar experiences here in New Brunswick when people have dropped them. We use UniTech scrubs as radiation area clothing at Point Lepreau, and found that we had fewer people dropping them when we fastened Velcro (the "loop" side) to the back of the clips. When the EPDs are clipped to the shirt pocket of the scrubs, they also fasten to the "hook" part of the Velcro closure for the pocket. This works particularly well for the EPDs that are placed in the transmitters to be used for teledosimetry. We came up with this method when workers were dropping the teledosimeters and breaking them. Hope this helps!

You have assured me that this is not localized to just us, and you have highlighted a good solution via histrogram to determine true alarms vs mechanical shock induced alarms. I just need to figure out how to prevent people from dropping them all the time. I appreciate you taking the time out of your day to respond to this question. The dosimeter if in a low now area will produce a short chirp and that is all. Histograms are verified and in all dropped ED cases the alarm is for 1 second minimal recordable. We are currently working with the vendor to analyze the specific dosimeters in questions, but I'm wondering if anyone else in the industry has experienced this problem. I would like to know if this issue is specific to some of the dosimeters we have received, or if this has affected other plants? Any information is greatly appreciated.
