Hello Glenn,

Diablo Canyon uses MaxAir PAPRs. We have also just incorporated the MSA
OptimAir Hood which accepts a hardhat for situations where we are unable to
re-schedule over-head work, and need the protection of the hardhat.

We have not used the OptimAir yet, but it looked like the best option…

As for the MaxAir, we use their “800 Hood System”. These are well-received by
both the wearers and my folks that have to maintain them. No complaints once
you get past the initial cost/unit. The reusable components are relatively easy
to turn around (decon), re-build and put back into play. These are by far our
preferred respirator choice.

Usage for the past two outages are below… numbers for the U-2 outage
significantly higher due to specific work in that outage. They should be less
this following U-2 Fall ’14 outage, although we will be going into the new
generators for the first time, so we’ll see.

1R18 – Spring ‘14
105 MaxAirs
64 Ultra Elites
124 Ultra Twins

2R17 – Spring ‘13
264 Max Airs
264 Ultra Elites
143 Ultra Twins

Let me know if you have any other questions,
