ANSI N42.14-1999 is handy for this too. It is a bit dated as digital MCAs were fairly new at the time it was written & the mathematical calibrations (LabSOCS) had not really been released yet. Sill…good stuff in it.

Perhaps better detail is in those docs. I have one related to lab QC (e.g. control charts, etc), but don’t have all of them. Yes 2. We use the Mirion/Canberra Apex Gamma with LabSOCS characterized detectors. For the mathematical efficiency calibrations, we perform an annual verification count to ensure that the characterization is still valid. Any empirically derived efficiency calibrations are performed annually as are energy calibrations. 3. For the mathematical calibrations, if the verification is satisfactory, we keep using the old one. For empirically derived efficiencies, we use the new one (Apex makes it hard to do otherwise). Do you calibrate your MCAs annually? 2. What process do you use to calibrate your MCAs? For example ordering sources for each geometry or ordering a single source to verify no significant change in detector efficiencies? 3. Do you install new calibration values after completing detector energy/efficiency calibrations or continue to use the old values if energy/efficiency values have not changed significantly? Thank you in advance for you help! Barbara J.
