Hi,

I noticed that there was a talk title "Linux Laptop Battery Life" at
Ottawa Linux Symposium held recently. The paper that describes this is
at

http://www.linuxsymposium.org/2006/linuxsymposium_procv1.pdf

Look at Pages 127 to 145. It is an interesting read.

Two things I find surprising:

1. Black screensaver doesn't save power as I thought it does. In fact,
it consumes a little more power than a screensaver that just displays
a white screen and does nothing else. (Section 4.1.2.).

2. Enabling throttling has negative impact on battery life (Section
4.1.8). I thought the powersave package's default configuration
enables throttling for the powersave scheme. Should the throttling be
enabled or not when running on battery? Enabling throttling had
negative impact on battery life by 9 minutes in DVD movie-watching
load (Section 4.3.3).

thanks,
Osho
