Dear all, I think if Paul Wolfowitz praises the Indonesian election, it is based on the reality. Indonesian people indeed have become the third largest democratic country. Indonesia is the good example of the muslim and democratic country in the world. Isn't that true?
What is good with Yudhoyono is that he is the one chosen by the Indonesian people themselves. He is non alien. You need to know that the good for Indonesia is also the good for the US and Australia, and the world. This is why the US hopes he can uproot terrorism, both the leftist terrorism and the Islamic one. Any kind of terrorism is destructive to the human civilization. Yudhoyono, with his background - educated in US and having the Islamic background in the East Java which has given him an open type of Islam - he can lead Indonesia to the new era of globalization. He will be able to cooperate well with the US in almost every aspect. In the economic aspect, he has concern to open for the global investation. In the political aspect, he is the champion of democracy. Please, friends, understand this important aspect of the world cooperation. We are now interdependent. If the Indonesian policy is too narrow minded, too nationalistic, too leftist, and less open to the well-being capitalism, the people of Indonesia will suffer for not being cooperative with the world. Even, Indonesia could suffer of being marginalized and pushed into becoming a pariah nation like what is happening now in Afghanistan and Irak. Whatever the Indonesian people say, the US is still the most powerful nation in the world. Like or not like, Indonesia has to cooperate. I think it is the opportunity to determine wisely the Indonesian's stance in the globalization era. The point is not how not to cooperate with the US, but how to cooperate without sacrificing the interest of the Indonesian people. If Yudhoyono will succeed in fighting terrorism in Indonesia, it will be good for the whole country. It will be good also for the ASEAN and the world. So, please don't doubt to the US's intention in helping Indonesia out of its misery because of terrorism flourishing in the country. God bless Indonesia!
