Buku "Identitas Budaya Kepulauan Riau
Sekumpulan Tulisan Budaya" ini tak syak lagi

di cakrawala Nusantara.

tak terlalu besar memberi imbas untuk 'menyeret' Riau Kepulauan menjadi bagian
dari perubahan paradigma kemajuan di Selat Malaka yang sedang berlangsung?
Padahal kalau kita berpikir dalam dimensi kebudayaan, tidak ada perbedaan
antara Malaysia atau Singapura dan Riau Kepulauan (Indonesia)." (Muchid Al

"Jika diamati dengan seksama, orang-orang Melayu setelah "menyerahkan" bahasa
Melayu menjadi bahasa Indonesia tidak (pernah) ikut berpatisipasi untuk menjaga
dan melestarikan bagaimana sopan-santun penggunaan bahasa Melayu yang menjadi
dasar bahasa Indonesia itu. Ketokohan dan kepeloporan orang Melayu tidak muncul
di tingkat nasional dalam hal pengendalian penggunaan bahasa Indonesia, baik di
dalam bidang pendidikan, pemerintahan, pers, maupun di dalam karya sastra.
Orang Melayu duduk di tepi gelanggang penggunaan bahasa Indonesia, menonton
orang-orang sekitar menggunakan dan mengatur bahasa Indonesia sesuka hatinya."
