----( IM )------------------------------ <http://www.ynetnews.com/articles/0,7340,L-3379342,00.html> ------------------------------------- Israel-Indonesia relations warming up ------------------------------------- Countries' UN ambassadors meet in New York Itamar Eichner Published: 03.21.07, 11:57 / Israel News Israeli Ambassador to the UN Dan Gillerman held his first public meeting with Indonesia's Ambassador Rezlan Ishar Jenie several days ago. The meeting, which was held in the Indonesian room at the United Nations headquarters in New York, was also attended by Danny Carmon, deputy head of the Israeli delegation to the UN, and Gilad Cohen, a counselor in the Israeli mission. The Israeli delegation to the UN viewed the meeting as extremely important, as it was the first time the two ambassadors met in public and secretly. Indonesia is the largest Muslim country in the world and does not have diplomatic relations with Israel. Indonesia is now a member of the UN Security Council and is involved in the United Nations Interim Force In Lebanon. The meeting was encouraged by the foreign ministers of both countries, and at its end the ambassadors promised to maintain an open and direct channel for a dialogue in the future. This was the second public meeting held between Gillerman and an ambassador of an Asian Muslim country which does not have diplomatic relations with Israel. About a month and a half ago, Yedioth Ahronoth reported, he met in public with Pakistan's ambassador to the UN. [Non-text portions of this message have been removed]
