The changes look good to me, I think I don't have anything else to add. Maybe it's a good time to squash+rebase and see how CI looks like. There are some references to 4.2 that should be updated to 5.0 after the rebase. I don't know what's the plan for attending @belliottsmith ask of preventing the major version dump.
