I'm not sure about RAM usage, it might be that NTPRIME uses a little less memory since it doesn't have any of the GUI components in the code but that is just a wild guess.
windows only loads pages (4k blocks) that are referenced... so in the service instance, if the GUI stuff is never referenced, it will never be loaded.
