THE WEEKEND PRIMETIME NEWSLETTER
AMERICA'S NEWSCHANNEL MSNBC
Friday May 24th- Sunday May 26th, 2002

***HIGHLIGHTS***

We hope you have a restful Memorial Day Weekend. When you've had enough of
your own fun (in the sun, we hope), chill out inside with our premiere of MSNBC
INVESTIGATES: PARTYING 101. We tag along with college students from several schools
who are consumed with drinking. Grade-point averages clearly take a back seat to
tolerance. One student says of his friend: "He took 22 shots. I'm proud of [him.]
He's a good guy." That program premieres Saturday at 8pm ET. We've also got a new
episode of LIFE AND DEATH called SKY-HIGH TRAUMA. That program premieres Sunday at
10pm ET, right after the premiere of NATIONAL GEOGRAPHIC EXPLORER: THE BATTLE FOR
MIDWAY, which kicks off at 8pm ET.

wedding anniversary. Details then emerged about his wife's teenaged lover and a plan
to kill her husband. We talk with Pamela Smart at the maximum security prison where
she is serving her sentence for the murder.

10PM ET
MSNBC INVESTIGATES: LOCKUP: WOMEN INSIDE VALLEY STATE
Women are the fastest growing population in American prisons today. Most were abused
and neglected as children. Most have children themselves. We go inside Valley State
Prison in California -- the largest women's correctional facility in the world.

SATURDAY, MAY 25
8PM ET
***MSNBC INVESTIGATES: PARTYING 101*** PREMIERE
Andrea sits with books and notebooks in front of her, crashing for her final in a few
hours. She's stressed out and isn't sure she's going to pass. WHY SHOULDN'T SHE
BE??? SHE'S SITTING IN A CROWDED BAR WITH THE MUSIC BLARING AND BEER DRIPPING ALL OVER
THE PLACE!! This is how our program opens as we look at how alcohol plays such an
enormous role in the lives of college students.

9PM
MSNBC INVESTIGATES: A DRUG CALLED ECSTASY
18 billion dollars...that's how much the US government spends each year fighting the
so-called "war on drugs." But while the government brags about how teen use of
marijuana is down, the use of the designer drug "ecstasy" has doubled in the past five
years, according to the Partnership for a Drug Free America. We go inside rave clubs
that have sprung up all over the country to find out why this drug is so popular, what
it can do, and how kids who use it can be helped.

10PM ET
MSNBC INVESTIGATES: SEX, LAWS AND VIDEOTAPE
Thousands of street prostitutes are arrested and thrown in jail every week for selling
sex. But there's a multi-billion dollar sex industry that is alive and well in this
country... and it's legal.

11PM ET
MSNBC INVESTIGATES: RED LIGHT SURVIVORS
We go out on the streets with women (and men) who say they've "chosen" prostitution as
a career opportunity. Why do they put themselves at risk for disease, or attack... or
worse? Maybe the fact that it's a $15 billion dollar a year industry has something to
do with it?

SUNDAY MAY 19
8-10PM ET
***NATIONAL GEOGRAPHIC EXPLORER: THE BATTLE FOR MIDWAY*** PREMIERE
Rarely-seen battle footage and interviews with surviving veterans bring to life one of
the most riveting chapters in world history, as deep-sea explorer Dr. Robert Ballard

Yorktown.

life-saving helicopter missions, where crews try to rescue patients in remote
locations.
