Well Yes, there are advantages to the PiezoTone inks over other monochrome
inks... but if they are better depends on what you want. I'm afraid my
experience with the inks you note (SG and QB) is limited but my recollection
is that they will both print OK on glossy stocks. PiezoTone inks will print
beautifully onto glossy stocks... and then rub off. This is typical for a
pigment ink to have issues with many a glossy paper... and dye inks will
exhibit deeper blacks [for a while]. However, I would expect to see the
Piezotone inks have benefits in terms of longevity on appropriate fine art
papers, especially if paired with the new Museum Black as described in a
recent post. Additionally, PiezoTone inks exhibit minimal if any metamerism
(I have not noticed any, nor seen any reports of the same).

It must be understood that whilst PiezoTone inks can be used by themselves
(or with workflows that use false colour; search the net for Randall or
Woolf workflows), they are designed for use with the Piezography plugin.
This overrides / replaces the Epson driver. It changes the way that ink is
laid down on the page and it KNOWS that the ink in the yellow position is
the lightest grey, and it only uses that single ink in the lightest areas.
In contrast, many systems that use the Epson driver are essentially working
on the basis that they can fool the driver to print monochrome when it
thinks it is printing colour.

If you are essentially happy with what you have, I would suggest no more at
this stage than to request a sample print of the Piezography system:
http://www.mwords.co.uk/pages/contactBWSample.htm

We will not be able to send out your sample straight away... as we are
waiting until we can send out samples of all the new 'Tone' inks, but we
will send them as soon as we can.

I'm afraid my traditional darkroom experience is rather close to none, so a
paper comaprison to Record Rapid is out of my league :)
