I have recently tried scanning Polapan 55PN negatives, and also other odd old formats, on a flatbed scanner in order to include the edges of the film with their unique markings. I cant think of any other way to do this. But of course I get Newtons rings.
I have acquired some Anti-Newton spray. Should I spray this onto the film or the glass? And what effect will this have on the sharpness and image quality? Do I have to clean it off afterwards? The other problem with using a flatbed scanner is that the lid does not press firmly onto the film, and some of these negs have a curvature that 40 years under the complete works of Shakespeare will not flatten. The end result is that the images are not sharp. Does anybody have any ideas how to solve these two problems?
