There are 5 cells which are indeed 1.2 volts each making the 6 volt battery.
32mm wide  10mm deep with a rim rather like a bowler hat that is 35mm across
all wrapped in blue plastic.
I do agree with the comment that the batteries last a long time , the current ( pun
intended) one that has just expanded  and died was about 12 years old and  a yearly
usage fee of  �7.50 is not bad but by the same measure I inherited tools from my
father which have to be well over 60 years old and still function !!
