Dear Paul and list

Firstly I would like to express a very heart felt THANK YOU to all
Prodigers on behalf of the list Mums for taking the list owner's
requirement seriously now. This followed my starting this particular
thread at the end of my last list mum stint, when I felt compelled to
bring to the attention of the list the problems the no email address
requirement was creating for us personally on an hour by hour basis.

The replies to this thread are interesting and the more viewpoints we
can have the better, as it will help the list owner to better shape the
direction and form the list takes in the future.

My own personal feeling and it is only my own view, is that the field in
which we work is changing so fast that what is the right way to do
something, or as Paul points out, will be useless in a week or two.
Something that nobody seems to have picked up on so far is that very
often new members to Prodig will often only have simple monitor type
questions to ask. By expecting them to plough through an archive is
not giving them a simple route to join in and I think that if this
happened it would be rather sad and might serve to make the list rather
elitist.

So to get back to the email address issue, I really wonder if we need to
continue to insist that those people who want to have their email
addresses in their contact details cannot be allowed to do this, after
all it's their problem if they get loads of pawn. Additionally if there
is no real benefit in having an Archive then we can forget the whole
thing! But as I said to one list Mum earlier today, I do not find it a
big problem to trim off other peoples email addresses, it just becomes
part of trimming and considerate usage of the Prodig list if that's what
is required of us. It's up to you to make your feeling known to the
list owner by posting to this thread.

Cheers

Richard (ducking for cover from all directions)
