My computer will be fixed by Apple (Amsys) early this coming week -
hopefully. I didn't think their helpdesk would be open today, but they were.

I am backed up, and my tapes are fine. I have another computer, which is a
9600 (OS9.1). I have been trying to restore the most urgent Photoshop files
from my Ecrix tape to my hard drive on the 9600 using Retrospect 4.3c - so I
can work on them. The Ecrix is plugged in via a PCI OrangeLink Firewire PCI
Board. I have to recreate a catalog for this tape before I can restore it,
but after so many gigabytes of data have been backed up, Retrospect stalls
and in the log it states

Trouble reading: 1-Backup Set A (0), error 205 (lost access to
storage medium).
    14/12/2002 6:42:25 pm: Execution incomplete

I don't think Ecrix works that well with third party firewire cards, and I
don't think this can be fixed. I have updated all my drivers, and tried
turning off all non essential extensions when running Retrospect, but to no
avail. Does anybody have a solution for this?

My firewire card was installed before 9.1. I have read that if 9.1 detects a
firewire driver on installation, it does not load it's own firmware. Can
this be a contributing factor. I have firewire enabler 2.7 in my extensions
control panel, I think that's all I should need. I also have the latest
firewire support extension from Retrospect

I will try and hurry Apple to fix my computer quickly, otherwise I will have
to rent out a computer.

Thank you all for your contributions
