Retrospect seems very fussy about using its firewire link. Its given me a few headaches in the past with an Onstream ECHO drive under OSX. It also hates it if you swap anything on the second firewire port, it loses the connection. I presume this is because its somehow working at the root level of the machine (I don't know for sure). I doubt if you would be able to recover OSX made backup tapes using OS9 on the second machine.
