I saw exactly this and other similar problems with my 1270 & 1280. Connecting them directly to a USB port (not going through a hub) cured the problem. I put another USB PCI card in the computer to get 4 more direct USB ports. I have an Epson printer on each one and none of those random no print problems anymore.
