I'm using a 120 gig Maxtor (7200) IDE drive in an external USB2 enclosure. I picked up USB2 cards for both computers and the transfer time is what you'd expect. I backed up 3 gigs of web site files from my laptop in about 1/2 hour. IDE drives are less expensive than external drives. I paid $150 for the 120 gig drive. Obviously I live in the US.

I've been looking through the archives, but although recently the feeling was that hard drives are a good storage solution now in view of their price, there didn't seem to be any real consensus of opinion as to which is best. This though obviously changes as new products come out and old ones get, well, old I suppose.

Can anyone suggest what is a good buy at present? I want something like a Firewire external 120gb. Purpose is twofold. One, to backup from my Vaio PC Laptop and from my Powerbook. Two, to use whilst editing digital video on the Powerbook.
