Hi Andy, Really depends on what size tranny / neg you're scanning, as the DPI varies depending on the source. If you haven't already, check out: http://www.luminous-landscape.com/reviews/scanners/imacon_co mparison.shtml IMHO You can't go wrong by investing the extra in the Imacon. I have a higher end unit and absolutely love it. There have also been frequent posts on this forum about other brands, and struggles people have had. Good luck!
