I have a new Epson 1290 printer
I also have a 'generic' Pixl ICC profile for this printer and Lyson fotonic
inks.

The problem is that while the profile gives quite good colour, areas that
should be white in the print (white borders in the image, or transparent
areas in a photoshop document) come out with a slight blue(?) tone.

Lyson's own ICC profiles all do the same, and the only ones that don't are
Espons, or when the output is set to 'same as source' (i.e. no profile) in
photoshop.

However, Lyson inks are radically different clours from the Epsons, and so
can't use one profile and the other ink.

Is this a problem with other users of the same gear? It cannot be down to
the printer because it is only doing what it is told... print a tone when
the image says there is none.

I am being 'encouraged' to shell out for a tailor made profile, but I feel
that I should be able to get something as basic as a piece of blank paper
with no stray ink on it without having to spend more.... what purpose do the
existing ICC profiles serve other than to dupe someone into thinking that
they will get a half decent job done?

Hope that I won't spend another night banging my head against this problem.
