Perhaps I should also have mentioned that the client is being told
that a drum scan of her 24"x18" artwork will cost her $40 Cdn. I
thought they were much more expensive than that. How can they do it
for the money? Or is it cheaper than I think?
Dear Ellie

Yes this is very cheap but of course there is no 'correct' price for drum scans just as there is no 'correct' price for making anything<G> The reason I suggest it's cheap is this is going to tie up a biggish scanner for the one job, the pastel has got to be carefully mounted, and removed and the consumables (overlay film etc) paid for. The scan has to tweaked to match the pastel, (time consuming perhaps) has to be spotted (perhaps) a CD written and checked...... and dare I say it...a profit needs to be made (very unlikely!)

To pick up on Rick's point, I think one would have to have absolute confidence of the scanner operator as obviously great care must be taken, but given that I see no reason why the original should be damaged. Obviously shooting it with a camera is the least dangerous method and it would be interesting to compare results.

Cheers

Richard
