Interesting this one Ian. I saw a review of the EOS1Ds in Amateur
Photographer in the library a couple of weeks ago.

It was an OK review, but who would test a high quality digicam with an
optimum ISO of 100 by photographing Greyhound racing at night? I emailed
the editor asking if perhaps their conclusion that the camera was nearly
as good as film was perhaps inaccurate? I have to admit to being wicked
in asking if they would test Fuji Velvia / Provia in the same way (i.e.
night time dog racing). Couldn't resist it!

His reply was illuminating if only for the arrogance displayed:

Dear Nick
Thanks for taking the time to write with your view of Damien's review on
the Canon 1Ds. I have to say that I completely disagree with your
assertion that this camera can produce images that are superior to 35mm
film, let alone 120. It is not technically true, although I fully accept
that you may believe from your own assessment that it is the case.
Best wishes
