Do you reckon that the Nikon software that comes with the machine gives you better results? I have a couple 'o mates wot use a Nikon 4000 and they also use Vuesacn to drive it... I did a very late one last night optimising my scanning workflow for the best quality/speed fudge. With vuescan set to "light" infra red cleaning at 4000dpi and using "4 samples" I reckon that I have found a quality result in about 5 mins. Setting the machine up for "Long exposure pass" and then at anything between 8-16 samples gave me enough time to have a shower, make a coffee and then finish my Braille Welsh copy "War and Peace", so I figured that this was a bit OTT...
