It's been around too long, - no longer the hot topic of the moment. It's a great little monitor for the price, altho there are probably others as good. The Blue Eye works well with it, but is dedicated hardware - works only with LaCie. You've probably heard about the desirability of being able to optimize the R, G & B output of the monitor before calibrating. The LaCie and Blue Eye does this automatically as part of the calibration. There is no provision to do this manually, so if you use any other calibration device, you will not derive this benefit on a LaCie. Buying a LaCie is kind of like Macintosh. You have to buy into the system and accept the pluses and minuses, and seeming dead ended-ness of it all. OTOH, with other brand monitors, generally the higher end models will allow you to optimize the RGB output manually, before calibrating with whatever brand device you want. So - if you buy the LaCie, buy the Blue Eye. If you don't want to buy the Blue Eye, don't buy the LaCie. And the new lower price of the Apple 17 LCD makes it only a "little more" than the LaCie 19 for effectively the same real estate. > > Reading articles it seems that CRTs are on the way out Too true > but the same articles suggest for accurate colour you need a CRT! Not true any more. > > Do I need to calibrate using hardware to get consistent and satisfactory > results. Hardware calibration will give you MORE consistent and MORE satisfactory results. Sorry, "consistent" and "satisfactory" are too subjective for a more objective answer. (like Yes or No) :-) Some seem perfectly happy using Adobe Gamma - others will have nothing but hardware. > > By way of background most of my work is weddings and portraits and goes to > Loxley colour as RGB - they have offered use of their Spyder to calibrate > but my view is that purchase of my own kit might be more convenient. Doggone nice of them. Glad to see somebody cares.... =============================================================== GO TO http://www.prodig.org for ~ GUIDELINES ~ un/SUBSCRIBING ~ ITEMS for SALE
