I am extremely disappointed by the broadband services offered in the UK from providers like NTL and BT. In Italy I had a 10MBit line (20 x faster than standard BT Broadband) with a 24/7 unlimited bandwidth and national phone calls except to mobiles for 30 a month including VAT. In addition it came with a free modem and you could cancel the contract at any time with just two months notice instead of being obliged to keep the line for at least 12 months with the likes of BT.
Broadband services in the UK are slow, expensive and petty minded. I was even forced to buy an Alcatel modem here that cost 182 just because the standard modem supplied my BT doesn't support OS X which is ridiculous. None of BT's installation CD's work with OS X and yet this is the de facto operating system for Macs and OS 9 is no longer even being developed. Talk about true broadband and competitive prices in the UK is just talk.
