I was recently told by a mate of mine -and I would trust his knowledge of the subject as he works as a programmer in US- Cable is faster than telephone broadband, but only until everyone in the street is connected to it. Apparently using telephone broadband all the packets of info have an ID tag therefore the only info coming down your line is the stuff you requested. While cable doesn't have this ability. So if 20 people are on cable broadband all 20 peoples requested info is fed down the line and has to be sorted out at (or near) the destination. The way I understand what he was saying is either system can only handle a finite amount of info before it clogs up/slows down. If your on telephone version there is only your info coming to you. If you are on cable there is everyone ion the streets info heading your way. Result Cable is faster than the telephone when only one or two people are subscribed to cable. The more people who use it the slower it gets until finally telephone systems are way faster. Food for thought and probably one of the reasons cable is cheaper. ----------------------------------------------------------------- Paul David Drabble Freelance Editorial & PR Photography 07831 853913 0114 2468406 www.pauldaviddrabble.co.uk ----------------------------------------------------------------- =============================================================== GO TO http://www.prodig.org for ~ GUIDELINES ~ un/SUBSCRIBING ~ ITEMS for SALE
