Hi all,

Breif intro from a newbie.

I'm semi-pro, building a business alongside my other incomes and consider
myself lucky to draw a wage from the two things I love doing. Been in lurk
mode for the last few weeks, but time to pose a question:

Been happily chugging along with my Nikon F801's, knowing that digital needs
to be bought. I had a big pause when I saw David Townend's postimg about his
D100 in RAW mode. Is it really THAT slow? I'm of the belief that a RAW file
is like a negative - as much info as possible is captured. You might not
need the info for that particular use, but who's to say you might need it
later? Best to shoot in RAW mode and de-grade the image later, or so I
thought....

Given that it fills the buffer so quickly and also that I occassionally
shoot a bit of sport, I'm baffled. Does this mean that a D1X is the only way
to go? And can I forget the new Kodak DCS14 thingy, as unless the thing has
really upped the stakes in processing power, it'll be even slower!! I was
thinking of nice big RAW files, lovely prints and being able to use my 24mm
as just that, up close in full frame and a reasonable shoot rate.

Is that roars of laughter I hear or are my requirements above more than just
a wish list?

Opinions please...

Neill Watson
