Hi Neill, Your posting has prompted me to do a speed test... and it was a this point I learnt the error of my way. I had the D100 set on Compressed Raw mode. I don't know how this happened, as I remember checking it was set to uncompressed Raw mode a while back for this very reason. So, I thank you !
The unscientific tests I have just undertaken have given me the following results - The methodology is simple : In each case I fired of a burst until the buffer was full and started a stopwatch, measuring the time it takes to write all the files in the buffer to disc. With jpeg (fine mode) the buffer will hold 6 frames. Unfortunately with Raw (uncompressed) it will only hold 4 : So we are onto a loosing wicket straight away. It took the D100 11 sec's to clear 6 frames from the buffer in fine jpeg mode (in the real world I can live with this). But the D100 took 21 secs to clear the 4 frames it can hold in the buffer in Raw mode. (In the real world this leaves me having to wait before being allowed to press the button again. This gives me a feeling akin to chlostrophobia and with a client staring down the lens I break out in a sweat ! I feel trapped...I want to run away in embarrassment. I know, I know, I probably need therapy !). Anyway, there you have it. Hope it helps.
