How about this as a suggestion. Instead of just accepting what companies like Epson UK do, why don't groups like the pro dig forum that now has something like 1000 professional members I believe, write a letter in protest to Epson UK and others.
Epson will no doubt not care one little bit, however, if a groups like the AOP and RPS were also involved and openly recommended that members purchase the 2200 from the States and subsequently all ink there I wonder if Epson might not just change its tune. After all casual users may not use much ink and those same casual users wouldn't bother to order from the States but many pros are now spending an awful lot of money on these supplies and we do buy in very large quantities at times especially as inkjet printers improve in quality. Funnily enough, I just had a local computer dealer on the phone desperate for my business and when I mentioned this alternative option of buying from the States he didn't have many answers and admitted that Canon and HP do exactly the same thing with their cartridges. Europe is now the single biggest economic market in the world and it is scandalous that the UK is always forced to pay so much more for everything.
