One way to fight off the high cost of small individual ink cartridges is the use of bulk ink in 4 and 8oz bottles. There are tremendous savings to be had using a printer equiped with such systems.
I've been using 4oz. MIS b&w quadtone carbon inkset in an Epson 1160 printer with great saving over any inkset sold in individual cartridges.
