[PRODIG]Dead IBM 1GB Microdrive?

Hi list,

Jut had a full 1gig microdrive (backed off fortunately) come up with 'disk error' when inserted back into an S2.
It was un mounted correctly, and I cant initialise it in either the S2 or on OSX. (the solution in the past)

What is rather puzzling is the decending buzzing noise it makes a bit like the invaders on space invaders...... a note about 3 seconds long, I thought it was the S2, but putting it back into the card reader, which as far as I can see has no speaker I get the same noise.

is it the little disc inside thats fallen off its wobbly pin or am I missing something obvious?
