Alan,

You didn't say what flash you wish to use and the type of work you are
doing, but the 'standard' Canon 550EZ has an high speed feature which allows
it to sync with the camera up to 2000th or 4000th sec. This of course cuts
the flash out put, but if you use a couple of the flashes + perhaps the STE2
remote trigger system, you will have the desired speed. Alternatively of
course, use powerful studio flash, close the aperture down to 16 or 22 @ ISO
50 and you have night time at 250th sec ( or nearly). You can always add an
ND filter or a polarizer to cut effective ISO to 25 or 12 even.
