Thanks for the reply Dave... but - I don't get what you are saying - is the fact that it is a CMOS chip part of the reason that it has to be controlled mechanically rather than electronically? are you saying that if it was a CCD it would be different? Also, Ian Reynolds mentions that the sync should be 1/250 - you may be right - (I am not certain that it was 1/125 when I tested) - but the essence of my question is not about the achieving best possible mechanically controlled sync speeds, but whether it is possible to achieve a huge improvement to say 1/2000 or 1/5000 by working around the finite performance of mechanical shutters and controlling the exposure electronically as the Camedia does.
