Microdrives can be fragile.  So far I've not had a failure, but I understand
that USA Today lost about half theirs in a span of 2 years.  Considering the
rigor those folks put the cards through, I can see why they've gone to
memory only.  Others have fared better.

I have not noticed any difference in power consumption between memory and
microdrives.
