About the microdrives, I'm using two at the moment (IBM), and they're working great. I'm not sure if they take longer times to write, or if they consume more battery since I never used CF, but battery life is still very good.
A 1g microdrive can shoot about 380 fine jpegs and a fresh battery on the d1x can definitely last those 380 shots.
