I've just returned from Sam's Club (warehouse store associated with Wal-Mart for you non-US folks) with a package of 40 CD-Rs from a company called Harmony. The discs have a gold recording surface and they are being marketed as special "archival" CD-Rs. The packaging says:
Harmony Pure Gold Series FEATURES: Gold Recording Surface Life-long storage up to 100 years Ture Pin-Point Accuracy Lifetime Warranty All speed compatible 80 minutes/700MB capacity Ideal for presentations, music, data, photo, and any files requiring the longest archival life Lasts 5 times longer than other regular CD-R Media based on normal usage. Does anybody know if this is just hype or are these discs really the best to use for archival storage?
