Hi David, You haven't said which system you are running but if you are on a Mac, I would recommend using Disk Utility to format drives. I used to run Silverlining Pro but found, like you, that the formatting times were tedious and slow. It was very refreshing when Disk Utility formatted the same drive in moments - I now use it for all new drives. You can find it in OSX under HD>Applications>Utilities>Disk Utility. Best of luck.
