I think the original problem was in using it 'the other way round'?

I've also found 'reliable' support of the solution above is very
problematic. For some systems it will work, but others go nowhere. You can
also get problems with OSX printing from running the classic environment. I
keep classic well away from my main print server, and use the gimp-print
drivers with CUPS printer queues where I need to print to an OSX printer
from 9 (not so often). I've put quite a few links relating to all this in
the 'maclinks' section on the site below.
