Paul

I see no reason why a digital camera file shouldn't sell provided the
'quality' is compatible with the subject matter. For example grainy /
differential focus / reportage type images can be produced with smaller
pixel-count chips and the inherent lack of pixels simply hidden by the
photographer's style or approach. On the other hand if the subject demands
critical sharpness and lack of grain or noise don't use a 3mp compact.
I have produced 65mb images from a Nikon D1x and have just bought the Canon
EOS1Ds which will easily interpolate to A3/300 ppi and beyond. I see nothing
wrong in CAREFULLY interpolating small files up to 65mb provided it is clear
that the image is not intended to look as though it's from a high end back
or 5x4 scan. Rather like a high res scan from something shot on a Lomo.
Roughly half my Alamy sales so far are digital captures. With the arrival of
the Canon I do not intend to shoot film at all unless 5x4 quality or
movements are required.
